Update to the original article below.
More that 10 years I’ve given up on WinAmp on modern Windows. As I remember since Windows 7 (could be wrong) WinAmp version 5.6xxx was crashing for me in every instance. I just sicked with Media Player Classic from K-Lite codec pack bundle for my multimedia daily requirements.
But, as of today I’m running a stable WinAmp v5.8 Build 3660 (x86) with Winamp SIDPlayer v1.5.4 playing latest High Voltage SID Collection 81 having audio visualisation enabled. As result of recent research on the topics of MilkDrop and WinAmp, and few test installations of it on Windows 10.
My goal was to make more efficient setup for live streaming my retro chiptunes music segment of the live presentation. From initially described in first revision of this post below.
Now, I can stream with OBS and capture “SIDAmp” playback with audio visualisation on the same PC as a base in production in whole of my video content.
Benefits
Using separate and independent OBS sources “Window capture” for MilkDrop or AVS (Advanced Visualisation Studio) and WinAmp with “Application Audio Capture” for WinAmp audio playback. Gives me freedom and simplicity to manage and arrange all these elements for different use cases inside same OBS Scenes Collection using one PC. This way audio is separate and not being duplicated or amplified, from image or video allowing to duplicate or reuse some visual elements.
Meaning that, I can position any of these window capture sources independently in a scene. Unlike case where display or desktop capture source from second PC is being used.
Where, media (video) coming from USB capture or media file source audio and video are in one ans a same container element. Creating duplicate or a clone of a media source in the same scene usually also duplicates the audio making it louder in that way but leaves only one audio source in the audio mixer.
